Potassium soap, also called "soft potassium soap" or more commonly Marseille soap, is a potassium salt of long chain carboxylic acids (fatty acids).

It is obtained by saponification with potash of vegetable oils extracted from the seeds of some plants (canola, sunflower, soy, etc.). The potassium soap, combined with the insecticides, performs the function of wetting and adhesive, favoring the homogeneous diffusion of the active principle inside the mixture to be distributed.

How does it works:

Soft soap (at 2-3% concentration) has an indirect action against sooty mold, since it favors the dissolution of the honeydew produced by the insects, it is an effective and inexpensive anti-aphid. It can also be an aid against the invasion of aleuroids and gray cabbage aphid and is effective in controlling scale insects as their chitinous protection is dissolved by the action of the soap and these insects, finding themselves without protection, subsequently die of dehydration.

The use of soap, to the extent of 0.2-0.5% facilitates the adhesion of most pesticide products, thus reinforcing the action. Use at the same time as copper should be avoided.

For the preparation it is recommended to dissolve the soap in a little warm water, adding a little rapeseed oil.
