Basic substance with insecticidal action and natural fungicide based on Nettle Extract, Allowed in Organic Farming at the best price.

It's a natural nettle preparation to be used both as an organic fertilizer and as a natural insecticide/fungicide. In fact, nettle macerate is a valid biological alternative to pesticides.

From 24 January 2017, the European Commission has provided for the insertion of Nettle extract or macerate among the Basic Substances, in implementation of the European regulation 1107/2009, art. 23, as an insecticide and fungicide for the protection of many agricultural crops from the main pests.

In fact, Nettle macerates are rich in formic acid and salicylic acid. These are particularly effective elements for limiting the spread of many species of animal and plant parasites. The main uses of this natural product are different. The most important are three:

  • Repellent of animal pests of plants (mites, aphids, lepidoptera, diptera, etc).
  • High quality Organic fertilizer, being rich in nitrogen, iron and other trace elements.
  • Stimulant of the natural defenses of the plants compared to some very dangerous fungal diseases for our vegetables, such as, above all, powdery mildew and downy mildew.

How to prepare Nettle extract or macerate:

It is prepared with the most common nettle varieties, Urtica urens and Urtica dioica. Nettle can be harvested in the meadows or in the woods at any time of the year, taking into account that harvesting from the beginning of spring to the beginning of summer is richer in nutrients. The whole plant is used for the preparation of nettle macerate, fresh or dried. Drying the nettle allows you to have it available to prepare the macerate throughout the year.

To get a good nettle maceration it is recommended to use 1 kg of green plant or 200 gr of dry plant for 10 lt of cold water, possibly rain water.

Immerse the jute bag containing the nettle in a container with the desired amount of water. It is recommended to use containers made of terracotta, wood, or more plastic, we do not recommend the use of metal containers. Simply cover it with a net to prevent the introduction of insects or dirt and to allow the passage of air. At this point the nettle macerate is mixed at least once a day. Place in a warm place, outdoors, away from direct sunlight. The macerated can give off a rather strong smell, therefore it is advisable not to store it in closed rooms during the preparation. Different types of macerate can be prepared, depending on the preparation time of the same. Here we give three indications: 24-hour maceration, 7-day maceration, 15-day maceration. Store the nettle macerate After filtering the macerate with a very fine sieve, you will have to transfer it to a bin or a bottle. Containers must be kept closed. To facilitate storage and to stop fermentation it is necessary to add a bit of vinegar to the macerate, in an amount equal to 2-4% compared to the quantity of liquid available. You can keep the nettle macerate for up to 1 year and a half.

Nettle extract or Nettle Macerate
(Urtica dioica and Urtica urens)

According to the vegetable mixture maceration we will have different use:

Nettle macerated for 24 hours undiluted
It's used concentrated, without water, as pesticide for aphids, at the beginning of the infestation
Nettle macerated for 7 days diluited with water 1:20
IOne liter of concentrated macerated nettle is diluited with 20 liter of water. We will have a solution  used to prevent pests attacks and fungal disease, to evenly distribute on the whole field of cultivation, in advance to the beginning of the infestation, since it serves as repellent.
Nettle macerated for 15 days with water 1:50.
This solution allows the utilisation of the product as Organic fertilizer, applied directly to the soil during the first stages of plant growth.
