The most important constituent of Bentonite is montmorillonite, a clay mineral belonging to the class of phyllosilicates smectites.

In the imbibition process, the clay transforms from a dry material into a gel, with a volume gain of even 16 times the initial weight. So the fundamental property of Bentonite is to absorb water and swell just like a sponge would.

Absorption of large quantities of water: in agriculture, the hydro-retentive power of Bentonite drastically reduces the problems deriving from an excess of humidity, such as for example infections by Botrytis cinerea on: vine, strawberry, vegetables, or rot acid of the grapes, supported by mushrooms that prefer very humid environments. Furthermore, by drying the superficial tissues with which it comes into contact, Bentonte forms a real scar at the micro-cracks of the fruits, from which fungal infections would otherwise easily begin.

Adsorption of metal ions, pesticides, nitrosamines, mycotoxins, other toxic substances present on leaves and fruits.

Silicon oxide (SiO2)
Aluminum oxide (Al2O3)
Iron oxide (Fe2O3)
Calcium oxide (CaO)
Magnesium Oxide (MgO)
Potassium Oxide (K2O)
Sodium oxide (Na2O)

It is necessary to treat the affected crops beforehand, especially the vineyards, right from the first vegetative stages, so as to apply Okybent to surfaces that in the future will be difficult to reach. One or more applications of Okybent are therefore suggested in post-flowering, while for the vine an incisive treatment is recommended in pre-closure bunches.

Powdery treatments: use 25 - 75 kg / ha of Okybent for each treatment, preferring dry and sunny days. Wet or rainy days reduce the effectiveness of treatments.

On vines it is advisable to combine Okybent with normal sulphuration with Zolfi ventilati.
