Okynol SM is made of Potassium soap, commonly called “Marseille soap” that is a salt of long chain carboxylic acids (fatty acids). It is obtained by saponification with potash of vegetable oils extracted from the seeds of various plants (canola, sunflower, soy, etc). Potassium soap, combined with insecticides, works as wetting and adhesive agent, allowing the homogeneous diffusion of the Active Ingredient (A.I.) through the mixture.
Okynol SM (at 2 - 3% concentration) has an indirect action against Sooty mold, because it causes the dissolution of the honeydew produced by the insects, so it is an effective and inexpensive anti-aphid.
It can also be an aid against the invasion of Aleuroids and gray cabbage Aphid and it is effective in controlling scale insects because their chitinous protection is dissolved by the action of the soap; these insects, without protection, die for dehydration.
Okynol SM (at 0,2 - 0,5% concentration) helps the tackiness of the most plant protection products, reinforcing their action. The use combined with the copper-based product should be avoided.
To prepare the mixture, it is recommended to dissolve Okynol SM in tepid water.
