Macrocheles robustulus

Acaro predatore di tripidi

This product is not on sale

Macrocheles robustulus is a predatory mite that for some time has been finding an interesting success in the field of biological and integrated defense.

Larger than the other mites (0, $ 1-0, $ 1 mm), $ 1 M. robustulus has reddish-brown color in the adult phase while, as a nymph at the first stage, it is white.

Unlike other mites that are used as predators of harmful insects, it can be found on the surface of the soil around the base of the plant, but not on its epigeal parts.

It is widely used in every period of the year, as long as the temperature and humidity conditions allow it, because - not affected by the photoperiod and not entering diapause - ensures constant monitoring.

Why use it
The introduction of M. robustulus occurs mainly in the fight against the thrips . In their life cycle, in fact, the thrips perform the pupa phase in the ground, the stage in which they are preyed by the mite.

M. robustulus feeds on several species of thrips, but is also active against eggs, larvae and pupae of scarves . It also feeds on some dipteran eggs as Lyprauta spp., Lepidopteran as Duponchelia fovealis and other insects present in the surface layer of the soil.

Conditions of use
It is possible to introduce M. robustulus already in the spring period, when the temperatures reach 15 ° C, distributing it directly on the ground and not on the crop.

To ensure an excellent habitat to the mite, it is important that the first centimeters of soil remain moist and do not dry out, to this end it is possible to use mulching material or suitable drips. A single initial introduction is usually sufficient for the establishment of a good population of M. robustulus .

The positive aspects related to the use of M. robustulus are the same that generally concern the use of natural antagonists, and therefore their total eco-sustainability, ease of use, absence of time of absence, the absence of danger towards the operator and the environment and the impossibility of phenomena of resistance by harmful insects, precisely because they are preyed.

In the case of this specific predator, we also note the marked characteristics of voracity, rusticity and adaptability (as already mentioned by the name) as well as the possibility of introducing it since spring.

Macrocheles robustulus controlla:

  • Tripidi
  • Sciaridi
  • Lepidotteri
